The Historical Ebike Tour starts at El Born Centre de Cultura i Memòria, a cultural center and museum built on the ruins of La Ribera, a neighborhood dating from the 8th century. From there we move to the Museu Picasso, a museum that exhibits a collection of 4,249 works made by the genius of Malaga.
The next stop of tour is the Basílica de Santa María del Mar. The basilica was built in 1329 by the parishioners of the port area and the Barceloneta neighborhood, unlike the cathedral of Barcelona, associated with the monarchy and nobility.
The route continues until we reach the Plaça Sant Jaume, the administrative heart of Catalonia. In the same square are located the Barcelona Town Hall and the Palau de la Generalitat de Catalunya, one of the few buildings of medieval origin in Europe that remains the seat of government.
The Historical Ebike Tour runs through the Ciutat Vella, the old district of the city, made up of all the areas that were inside the walls that existed until the middle of the 18th century. We also make stops both in the Catedral de Barcelona, built during the 13th century on the old Romanesque cathedral and the Plaça Sant Felip Neri, one of the most magical and calmed landmarks of Barcelona.
The Historical Ebike Tour passes through the Raval neighborhood until reaching the Museu d´Art Contemporani de Barcelona, also known as MACBA. The origins of MACBA are set in 1959, when art critic Alexandre Pellicer formed a group of artists with the goal of creating a museum of contemporary art in Barcelona. The museum helped to renew the neighborhood and to this day this square is a meeting point for young people, especially skateboarders.
Our bicycles cross La Rambla, Barcelona´s Main Street, enjoying its diverse and festive ambient. The next stop of this historical tour is the Palau Güell. This apartment building was Antoni Gaudí´s first important commission and the sumptuous facade shows oriental motifs that were Gaudi´s earliest inspiration. The route continues in Plaça Reial, a beautiful square designed and built by the architect Francesc Daniel Molina. It is widely known for its bars, restaurants and because on weekends it hosts gatherings of stamps and coin collectors.
From there we make a huge leap from the gothic quarter to La Barceloneta, the fishermen´s district. La Barceloneta became an industrial and working area until the mid-20th century, when industries left the area. After the Olympic games of 1992, this emblematic industrial and seafaring neighborhood became a touristic area. The Tour stops at the Mercat de la Barceloneta, one of the centenary markets of the city. It was inaugurated in 1884 and it is a work of the famous architect Antoni Rovira i Trias.
At the end of the Passeig de Joan de Borbó we find the main beaches of Barcelona: La Barceloneta beach, the Olympic Port and Nova Icària beach. Both beaches are crowded during summer and winter, thanks to its famous fish-shaped sculpture, work of Frank Gehry. During our tour through the seafront we also find the wounded star, work of Rebecca Horn. This statue was placed in this beach in 1992 and it´s known by locals as “The cubes”.
The tour culminates in La Rambla del Poble Nou, the Main Street of this old industrial district and the Mercat dels Encants, a street market with more than nine centuries of history. It is one of the only European street markets that is opened every day and where you can buy everything from clothes to mechanical tools or even unique works of art.
