About the itinerary

The Montjuïc Ebike Tour starts at Arc del Triomf, a monument designed as the main entrance to the 1888 Universal Exhibition. From there we cross Barcelona riding our electric bicycles to arrive on the east side of the city, Plaça d’Espanya. In this enormous square, we find the two Torres Venecianes that welcome us to the Montjuïc district.

The first stop on the route is La Font Màgica de Montjuïc, the main fountain of a big set of ponds and fountains located from the Palau Nacional to Plaça d’Espanya. The magic fountain has a series of rows and light columns that display amazing illumination spectacles. Behind the fountain, there are four columns symbolizing the four red bars of the Catalonian flag. The columns were demolished in 1928 during Primo de Rivera´s dictatorship, who intended to eliminate all Catalan symbols for the 1929 Universal Exhibition. In 2010 they were restored with the support of all the political parties.

The Museu Nacional D´Art de Catalunya, known as the MNAC, is the museum that presides over the promenade. Formerly a national palace built for the 1929 Universal Exposition, it was turned to an art museum. Today it has one of the biggest collections of Romanesque art in the world, as well as numismatics, engravings and photography sections. The museum also carries out conservation, study and restoration work and its collection have more than 250,000 works of art.

The tour begins to ascend the Montjuïc Mountain until arriving at the Anella Olímpica, a set of sports facilities that were used in the 1992 Olympic Games. The facilities that comprise the Anella Olímpica are the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, the Palau Sant Jordi, the Piscines Bernat Picornell, the Torre Calatrava, the Estadi Pérez de Rozas Baseball, the Institut Nacional d’Educació Física de Catalunya, the Complex Esportiu Municipal Pau Negre – Migdia Park and the Museu Olímpic.

Our electric bikes will take us to the Jardins Joan Brossa, an exuberant garden dedicated to the famous Catalan poet. The gardens have a children´s park and other recreational equipment, as well as a diverse collection of sculptures from different ages. It has a total extension of 5.2 hectares and until 1965 it was the site of a military post.

The Montjuïc Ebike Tour finally arrives to one of the most impressive landmarks of the route: El Castell de Montjuïc. The Montjuïc castle is an old military fortress that has had an important role in the Barcelona history. It has been occupied by both national and foreign troops during the different wars of the history. It´s been also used to repress the population during political struggles and even as a prison for political opponents.

Nearby is the Parc Del Mirador de Poble Sec, a natural area that welcomes us to the Poble Sec neighborhood, where we visit the Plaça del Sortidor, one of the most beautiful and calmed places of Barcelona. The route through Poble Sec continues until reaching the Sant Antoni neighborhood, one of the trendiest areas in Barcelona. In these streets you can enjoy a young and modern atmosphere that permeates the coffee places, restaurants and pubs.

Leaving Sant Antoni, we ride along the streets of the Raval neighborhood until we reach Sant Pau del Camp, a former convent of Benedictine monks. The tour ends in the Reials Drassanes, the architectural complex that brings together the maritime museum and the old shipyards of Barcelona. From there we return to the starting point.

The Montjuïc Ebike Tour is the perfect route for all those who want to enjoy a great combination of historical landmarks and nature. El Jardí Botànic, the Castell de Montjuïc or the Fundació Joan Miró or the Parc Del Mirador de Poble Sec are examples of the balance between green areas and cultural sites that the Montjuïc Mountain has to offer. The big Montjuïc Park offers fabulous view-points for taking great pictures of the city, the sea and the mountain.

The Montjuïc Mountain has played a very important role in the history of Barcelona and getting to know it is essential. Events happened in the Montjuïc castle are fundamental to understand the social and political situation of Catalonia and his stormy relationship with the Spanish government.

Some of the coolest neighborhoods in Barcelona, such as Poble Sec or Sant Antoni are included in this tour. Those areas have some of the best shops, wineries and restaurants of the city and our local guides will teach you to recognize them. Experience its trendy feeling and cultural charm that attract young (and not so young) people from all around the world.
